Merchant Square hosted lots of free kids theatre and activities on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July for all the family to enjoy. Programmed by Imaginate and Edinburgh Children's Festival.

Saturday & Sunday 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:15pm with Pom Pom Crafting all day. 

The Prom Pom Queen and her Pom Pom Pet promenade through Merchant Square and beyond offering playful interactions. You can even make your own pompom! 

Saturday ONLY from 11:00am, 2:15pm and 4pm

A pop-up dance performance featuring two regency-esque aristocrats preparing for a grand ball, dressed in extravagant wigs and ornate costumes. Challenging gender, class and identity, it disrupts societal norms and celebrates self-expression.

Sunday ONLY at 11:00am, 2:15pm and 4:15pm

1, 2, 3 resilient mushrooms! tells a story through ceilidh dancing, physical storytelling and Scottish traditional music of a landscape, treated poorly and almost abandoned, but not just yet, not by the mushrooms.

Saturday & Sunday 12:30pm, 2:00pm and 4:15pm

Then What is an action-packed fast paced dance performance bursting with thrilling lifts and exciting movements that will exhilarate the audience. 

Saturday & Sunday 12:45pm - 1:30pm

Sparkling unicorns Melody and Luna are looking for new unicorn pals and they've heard there are some at Merchant City Festival! They'll be throwing the best dance party ever so be sure to come along! 


With easy-to-follow-along moves, visual spectacle, and “unicorn sparkles”, they help unlock people’s inner unicorn and find the joy within us all.

Wheel See

A pop-up dance performance featuring 20 professional dancers. Dressed in distinctive yellow rain jackets hand-painted with eyes, the dancers entertained festivalgoers of all ages with this joyous free work inspired by flocks of bird.
