Young Scot and National Entitlement Card

Unlock Glasgow

Whether you’re using it as a valid proof of age, free bus travel or enjoying exclusive discounts, the Young Scot card is designed to help you live life to the fullest. Don’t miss out and apply today at your local Glasgow Life library or online to start saving and exploring!

Free bus travel across Scotland for 5-21 year olds with a National Entitlement Card (NEC).

If your NEC was issued before free bus travel began you will need to apply for a new card.

If you're 12 or over, your card will be a Young Scot NEC, which also gives you discounts, rewards, and proof of age.

  • Ages 5–15: A parent or guardian must apply and give approval.
  • Ages 16–21: You can apply online yourself.

A few services aren't included in the free bus travel scheme, like premium night buses and City Sightseeing buses. Please check with the bus company before travelling.

Before applying, you’ll need electronic copies of your photograph (if you’re over 11), proof of person and address. You can find guidance and terms and conditions at nec.scot

Forms should be available from your school office. If you’re over 11 then you will need to supply a head and shoulders photo on a light-coloured background. You will also need to get a teacher to fill in the photo referee part of the form.

You won’t need to prove your address or date of birth as we check these against the details held by your school.

If you have left school, then visit your local Glasgow Life Library for a form or download it.

You’ll need all the same proofs as you would if you’re applying online to do this. The library staff will check your form and send it to the admin team for processing.

If you don’t have the proof required, email us at youngglasgow@glasgowlife.org.uk for advice on how best to get your card.

If you lost your card and need to request a replacement, please complete the National Entitlement Card and Young Scot Card Replacement Request Form

Please note you can’t use this form if you need to upload a photo for the first time or to update your photo. Instead, email your name, date of birth, and card number (if known) with your photo to: youngglasgow@glasgowlife.org.uk
