Writer Lesley McDowell chairs a discussion between Elissa Soave and Emma Jane Unsworth, two authors each with funny and empowering tales of sisters and sisterhood.
In Soave’s Graffiti Girls, we’re introduced to Amy, Carole, Lenore, and Susan, best friends since school. Back then, they couldn’t wait for the future. But things haven’t worked out as they expected. Now in their forties, they’re fed up with being taken for granted by their families, passed over for promotions, and told that they’re past their best. Fuelled by female rage, the four embark on a graffiti campaign in their hometown of Hamilton — but is Hamilton ready for the feminist revolution the Graffiti Girls have in store?
Meanwhile, in Slags, Unsworth takes us on a road trip across Scotland with sisters Sarah and Juliette. They haven’t always got along, but they both know how the deep, dark, mortifying secrets of your adolescence can haunt you forever. In a no-holds-barred, frank and heartfelt exploration of friendship and teenage obsession, the pair set out on a whisky-fuelled campervan journey to dig up some demons.

Parking
Please note that there is on-street parking surrounding The Mitchell Library. This is metered from 8am-6pm. Monday to Friday. As this is a local residential area, please use these spaces considerately. Alternatively, there is a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station which is a 2 minute walk away.
