Scottish fiddle player and composer Catriona Price presents a night of intercultural collaboration between Scotland and Latin America. Showcasing new work created during a musical journey across Mexico and Chile, the show features special guest appearances from El Guapo (Argentina), Pahua (Mexico) and Daniela Millaleo (Chile).
Catriona shares the musical explorations created during the development of her newest project Routes to Roots - an initiative creating intercultural collaborations to connect communities. The night also features music from Catriona‘s solo album Hert, as well as the first glimpse of brand new music.
Catriona creates cross-genre music, with a focus on
making change through cultural exchange and artistic innovation. She is half of
pop-folk duo Twelfth Day, a member of folk band Fara, Co-Artistic Director of
string ensemble Thirteen North, and Artistic Director of Routes to Roots. Her
debut solo album was released in 2023 with a launch at Celtic Connections and a
sold out show at Edinburgh International Festival.
Argentinian band El Guapo have been captivating audiences internationally since 2019 with their unique mix of Latin-rooted influences, alongside rock and funk. Their feel-good sound emerges from Latin America's diverse music scene as a fresh and innovative musical adventure.
Following a UK tour in 2024, and extensive touring across Spain, Mexico and Guatemala, Celtic Connections marks El Guapo’s debut European festival appearance. Their track ‘Barquito de Sal’, was the winner of the Young Latin American Revelation award at Kleztival festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
El Guapo’s debut album “Oye Boludo” welcomes audiences
into a world of eclectic melodies, stirring lyrics and explosive arrangements.
Its title is a modification of the Argentinian expression "che
boludo", used colloquially to grab a friend's attention. "Oye",
used in place of "che" throughout the rest of Latin America, reflects
El Guapo's outward-looking, international sensibility that invites listeners on
a musical journey across Latin America and beyond.
