Background Information

Glasgow Life Museums Annual Art Competition for Young People was first established in 1904 and continues to this day. Each year, young people aged between 3 and 18 are invited to draw something on display in one of our museum venues. With such varied collections, and amazing architecture, there's plenty to inspire!  Participation can be through a school visit or as an individual.  

Participating museums are:

Drawings must be done in-situ and be the young person's own work.

Young people can take part as an individual or through a school group visit. 

Entries are judged by a panel of artists and educators. We award Commended and Highly Commended certificates, as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Medal winners are invited to a prize giving in the Autumn.

Everything you need to know about the competition

Drawings must be done on paper, sized A3 or smaller. Pastels, pencils and pen can be used, however it's pencil only at the Burrell Collection, GoMA and St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art. 

Water-based paints can also be used at Kelvingrove Museum and Riverside Museum only.

Entries drawn in class or at home will not be judged.

Works must be produced by the child themselves. No adult-child collaborations please!

Unfortunately non-winning artworks cannot be returned.
